Roman Catholic Succession

The Roman Succession that led to

Scipione Cardinal Rebiba

Validated 2018

A remarkable piece of history: an impressive 95% of Catholic bishops, including Pope Francis, share a common ecclesiastical ancestor.

This ancestor is none other than Scipione Rebiba, a 14th-century bishop who had immense influence within the Catholic Church.

Born in the small village of San Marco d’Alunzio in Sicily, Rebiba was taken under the wing of Gian Pietro Carafa,

who later ascended to the papacy as Pope Paul IV.

* This organization takes great pride in sharing this ancestry. Unlike the line of Antonio Barberini -- 1657 to 1671, whose line it not

fully recognized by the Union of Utrecht based on their 'assumptions' that the consecrations of Mathew and Villatte

were in some way nefarious, the line of Rebiba is beyond refute.

--- > Cardinal Oliviero Carafa (Cardinal under Pope Paul II) Died 1511

[see 221] ---- > Gian Pietro Carafa – [Paul IV Pope 1555 – 1559] (consecrated by Oliviero in 1505)

The Roman Church accepts Gian Pietro Carafa as being the consecrator of Scipione Cardinal Rebiba.

While the records were destroyed by a fire in Chieti. Rebiba is part of the episcopal lineage of Pope Francis and 91% to 95%of Catholic bishops alive today.

Since there are no records of who consecrated him, most Roman Catholic bishops can trace their episcopal lineage only as far back as Rebiba.
